Fort Davis sits on the east side of this bit of mountains. The U. of Texas McDonald Observatory is also in these mountains. What attracted me to come here was an article saying that a New York artist had come down here and bought some land that used to be an army base and used some of the buildings to create a large sculpture museum. Supposedly an artist's community had established itself, too. I didn't find any of it.
